Fantasy art is a illustrative genre usually portraying magikal and other supernatural elements, concepts, entities or enviroments. While there can be some overlap with other genres such as science fiction, horror and other forms of speculative fiction art, there are unique elements not generally found in other forms. Depictions of ancient myths and legends, as well as depictions of modern day fantasy in the form of divine interventions and other magical or supernatural forces, are very common elements, and distinguish fantasy art from other forms. Dragons, wizards, fairies and other fantastical and mythical creatures are common features in fantasy art.

Viking Woodcut
This Gallery begins with one of my favourite historical nations, subject to much speculation and legend, the Scythians: Ancient hoseman of the Russian steppes. Fallen Angels (pencil), variations on a demonic acrylic painting, an ancient Viking woodcut, a sterling silver Dragon pendant, the Kurgan (pencil), the Ring Shaper and a selection of axes, swords and shields.

But if it so happens...a work... requires fantasy...[and that] certain limbs or elements of a figure are altered by borrowing from other species, for example transforming into a dolphin the hinder end of a griffon or a stag... these alterations will be excellent and the substitution, however unreal it may seem, deserves to be declared a fine invention in the genre of the monstrous. When a painter introduces into this kind of work of art chimerae and other imaginary beings in order to divert and entertain the senses and also to captivate the eyes of mortals wholong to see unclassified and impossible things, he shows himself more respectful of reason than if he produced the usual figures of men or animals.
